A New Voice in a Changing World

Why does Dr. Albert F. Spencer, someone who has served for thirty years as a teacher, want to serve you in the United States House of Representatives as a Republican and run against a Democrat incumbent with over a quarter century of experience? The reasons are straight forward: “to serve” and “to represent” you.

What can Spencer offer to the people of the 5th Congressional District? The answers are in some of our major issues on which he differs tremendously with the incumbent congressman: the economy, education, health care, pro life values, Social Security, and lower taxes with representation. Albert Spencer wants to represent you in Congress for the same reasons he applied to his serving as a teacher. People deserve a chance to better themselves and lead healthier, happier lives. Spencer believes in term limits (8-year maximum) which encourages fresh ideas and solutions, as well as accountability to constituents, and discourages special interests and party politics.
South Carolina has the right to be proud of its heritage as one of the original 13 United States of America. Today, however, we have some very serious problems in the nation and our state which must be addressed by non-partisan politics and the efforts of Americans working together. Many of our citizens do not have decent, affordable housing, or employment. Too many military veterans are homeless or encounter difficulty receiving basic benefits. Without a mutual coming together of political parties, Social Security is moving toward bankruptcy within ten years. Taxes are much too high for the average citizen and congressional spending (and salary increases) continue to escalate. Left unchecked, our children and grandchildren face a future budget deficit of enormous magnitude. A failing school system featured on PBS-TV, “The Corridor of Shame,” is in this Congressional District. Twenty-five percent of America’s preschool children grow up in poverty and nearly 1 in 5 elderly persons live in poverty—these figures are even higher in our district. Related to many of these issues and concerns, our literacy rate of both children and adults is among the lowest in the nation.
We urge you to visit our website at http://www.spencer4congress.com/ to learn more about our solutions to essential issues such as energizing the economy, educational opportunity for all, affordable and accessible health care, social security stability, and lower and more accountable taxes. Together, we can strengthen our communities and once again return the United States of America to the ideas of the Republic for which our flag stands. Two hundred years ago, Alexander Hamilton emphasized that the newly constructed Capitol Building, “is where the people govern.” If elected, my pledge to you is to work with you as a member of a team to make America truly, “One nation under God with liberty and justice for all.”
A congressman must represent all of the people, not just donors, special interests, or his party. The incumbent’s supporters claim that he is more conservative than his liberal colleagues, but his voting record states otherwise. The “Washington Post” reports that he has a 96.2% liberal voting record. Does this represent you? This is a critical election year in that your vote is essential in terms of the impact it will have on you, your family, and future generations yet to be born. I need your vote and would be very appreciative if you share our candidacy with your family and friends. Thank you. May God Bless you and God Bless America!
